• Around 1% of people ages 50-79 are expected to receive a “Cancer Signal Detected” test result. Age is the #1 factor for cancer risk, but family history and exposures are also important determinants of cancer to consider.

• A positive result will trigger an appointment with Dr. Turner where we will discuss the meaning of the findings and suggest appropriate next steps in diagnosis. Only 0.5% of positive results are false positives, meaning that out of 200 people without cancer who take this test, only one patient will get a positive result. In this case, if no cancer is found during appropriate follow up studies, Galleri will re-test the patient for free after several months. If the test signal is still positive, that likely means that a cancer is present but just not visible yet on imaging, and this will result in more in depth diagnostic efforts.

• A positive result on the Galleri Screen leads to a definitive cancer diagnosis in over 40% of patients which far outperforms traditional screening tests for cancer (mammogram= 5-10% , pap smear= 1%, PSA screen=25% ). Sometimes cancers are pre-clinical, or too small to find at the time of a positive test result.
