On average, weight loss for Tirzepatide is ~ 22% and Semaglutide ~16%. These are averages based on large studies and reputable journals, but many patients are able to lose significantly more weight than average on both medications.
The primary differences between the two programs are the weight and health goals of the patients.
Patients 20 pounds or more overweight or who need to lose > 10% of their body weight to improve weight related health conditions would be best suited for the Weight Loss Program with higher final doses of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
Patients who have previously lost significant weight and need help to maintain progress or who do not have much more to lose and are trying to avoid the side effects of higher dosing, the Weight Maintenance Program with lower doses of GLP-1 medication is a better option.
Each prospective client will be individually evaluated through a medical history and brief intake with the doctor, and a decision will be made as quickly as possible, usually on the same day. If you are a candidate, your medications will be ordered within 24 hours and will be on your doorstep in less than a week. Book an appointment to get started here.
If you are not deemed to be a candidate for GLP-1 peptides, you may still be eligible for other peptides or supplements that can aid your weight loss efforts. You can discuss these with Dr. Turner at the time of consultation.
If you are deemed not a candidate for the medications you have requested after your consultation with the physician, you will not be charged.
There are a small number of patients for whom GLP-1 receptor agonists are contraindicated or not advisable based on medical or family history. After you complete your intake information and speak with the doctor, you will learn if you are eligible to join the program.
Prescriptions you fill at a commercial pharmacy are the pure form of the GLP-1 agonist medication. The FDA permits semaglutide and tirzepatide to be mixed with other compounds such as Glycine, B6, and B12 to meet unique patient needs and to help manage side effects. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved and have not undergone FDA review for safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing, but they are available and allowable with a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider who deems them necessary as off-label use.
We partner only with highly regulated and properly licensed and accredited 503A compound pharmacies in the United States. Our pharmacy partners only use pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, and independent testing is performed to ensure quality, sterility, and potency. Compounded medications are available widely, but are not yet FDA approved.
Yes, you will have access to all of the available specialty testing at our exclusive discounted partner rates as well as peptides and biologics and 15% off of high quality supplements through Fullscript. You can also make additional physician appointments as needed throughout the year for non-emergency medical and health issues.
Both semaglutide and tirzepatide help control appetite and promote weight loss by mimicking natural hormones in the body that regulate hunger, insulin levels, and blood sugar. This can reduce the frequency and intensity of food cravings and intrusive thoughts about food also known as "food noise." They also work by slowing the movement of food through your stomach, helping you feel fuller longer.
Semaglutide mimics the hormone GLP-1, while tirzepatide works on both GLP-1 and GIP, which makes tirzepatide more powerful for some people in terms of weight loss, however >80% of people feel that all GLP-1s are more effective than diet and exercise alone for weight loss.
GLP-1 medications offer broad metabolic, cardiovascular, neurologic, and anti-inflammatory benefits beyond weight loss. They have been shown to have benefits for fatty liver, cancer prevention, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), cognitive decline / Alzheimer's, erectile dysfunction, and even addiction treatment for alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and gambling. New research is coming out weekly that highlights new and exciting benefits to GLP-1 medications far beyond weight management.
Many patients also report improved mood, more energy, less joint pain, enhanced libido, and improved sleep.
Nausea, fatigue, and either constipation or diarrhea is common when first starting GLP-1 agonist therapy, but these are often mild, temporary, and manageable. OughtMed can recommend supplements through Fullscript to help with gastrointestinal side effects and even prescription strength Zofran anti-nausea medication if needed.
Patients should message the doctor for significant abdominal pain or visual changes which may require further evaluation. Serious side effects are rare.
Peptides and biologics are compounds with potential benefit for a number of symptoms including age related declines in muscle mass, energy, skin, hair, and libido as well as positive effects on metabolism, mood, cognition, sleep, and overall wellness.
